What is happening with the Panasonic DBS system? In May of 2009, Panasonic announced that it will no longer offer live technical support for the DBS and 576 product line to dealers and resellers.  Technical support will be limited to online documentation on the Panasonic BTS dealer website.

Why is this being announced now? Panasonic discontinued manufacturing and marketing the DBS product line several years ago. A number of DBS users have since migrated to other systems.  The number of live support calls has dropped over the years and Panasonic felt that this warranted discontinuation of their live telephone support for this product.

How do we know if we have a Panasonic DBS system? If you recently received an informational mailing, our records indicate that you now have or in the past had a Panasonic DBS or 576 telephone system in your place of business. If your phones look like the phones in the pictures above, chances are you still use this system.

What if there is a problem with our system? The DBS is a stable and reliable system, and Excelephone will continue to support DBS users as long as parts are available.  There is a large market in refurbished phones and parts for the DBS platform, and some new components are still available via third-party resellers. At Excelephone, we have over ten years of experience maintaining the Panasonic DBS and 576 product lines.

Should we replace our system now? We don’t think it’s necessary to replace your DBS system right away. However, you should consider budgeting for a replacement system within five years, as you can expect decreased availability of phones and system components over that period.

We’re not ready to replace our system. Are there ways to enhance our existing DBS system now? There are a number of ways to take advantage of the latest technologies to enhance your system.  For example, did you know that you can make long-distance phone calls using a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) service provider, often for a low monthly flat rate per line. Or, you can use your existing high-speed internet connection to call a branch office in another town, or another state, for free?  And you can do all this with the phone system you already have!  An Excelephone technician will survey your system, at no cost to you, and tell you how you can start saving money using VoIP.
